Friday Five: Books to Increase Your Awareness
Jan 17, 2025
I read a lot of books.
It's become a running joke in my home that when a prime package comes, it's for me and you don't even have to ask what it is because everyone knows: it's more books.
Today I'm sharing 5 books that will help you increase your self-awareness.
Not in the social sense of the word. This isn't about being self-aware of the way your teeth or eyebrows look at a party.
The kind of awareness I teach and practice is an inner awareness.
A conscious presence.
You have energy focused on the outside, but keep some focused on the inside.
You notice how you feel, what you're thinking, the beliefs you hold strong, and the doubts that creep in.
And you simply observe.
Ideally, you observe without judgment. (More on that in a future newsletter.)
The 5 Books to Increase Your Awareness
#1 Awareness by Anthony DeMello
I really enjoyed the practicality of this book. I laughed. I choked up. I felt called out. I saw myself and others with more grace and compassion.
Read it to expand how you see yourself and the world, but come with an open mind and light heart. Don't take yourself too seriously or the book will be hard to get through.
#2 The Last Word on Power by Tracy Goss
Whew. This book took me awhile to get through because it challenged so much of how I see myself.
Even though the book is directed at executives in companies, I found that it was still super helpful for me.
My biggest takeaway: my winning strategy can't help me create the impossible. It can only help me re-create what I've already created. I have to drop my winning strategy, develop a new strategy aligned with where I want to go...
Awareness at a high level.
#3 A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle
This is a book I read every year. It was enlightening the first time I read it, and I have a spiritual experience every time I read it. It is profound, and it will help you be a better human.
#4 Living Untethered by Michael Singer
I love his stories, metaphors, and gentle writing. He talks about deep, profound truths in a way that was more simple for me to understand than some of the other books.
I love how he talks about the human mind, the soul, and how we interact with life.
Also a book that brings high levels of awareness just by reading it.
#5 The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks
We did this in the Quiet Wealth Membership for book club in December, and I've read this book more than 5 times because for someone who wants exponential success in all aspects of life... this should be considered mandatory reading.
I love his concept "upper limit problem" which basically explains why we self-sabotage.
If we have a set amount of success programed into our psyche, when we go beyond that level of success, we end up trying to bring it back down so it feels more normal to us.
This is why I've seen clients have mental breakdowns after making more money than they could even imagine in a month, or why I've seen clients disappear from their business after getting fully booked. It looks a little different on everyone, but becoming conscious of your upper limits is a huge advantage and tool if you're creating something you've never created before.
Have you read any of these books already? I'd love to hear from you.
Happy Friday.
Cheers to your increasing awareness!
Love
Amber
P.S. If you like my book recommendations, you might love being in The Quiet Wealth Membership. I host a monthly book club, and there are coaching calls with me and program mentors, a private community, and more. I'd love to see you in there.
